Ghana to host 2025 Data Protection Africa Summit, Picasso Awards

GHANA will host the 2025 Data Protection Africa Summit in Accra from December 1 to 4, bringing together global and continental experts to deliberate on the protection of personal information amid rapid digital transformation.

Organised by the Africa Digital Rights Hub LBG (ADRH) in partnership with the Data Protection Commission (DPC), the summit will convene regulators, policymakers, civil society organisations, industry leaders, and technology actors to examine the evolving data governance landscape and explore how innovation can co-exist with strong privacy safeguards.

Executive Director of ADRH, Ms Teki Akuetteh, said the continent’s swift uptake of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data analytics has heightened both the risks and opportunities associated with personal data protection.

As our continent continues to experience rapid digital transformation, the protection of personal information has become both a pressing challenge and a critical opportunity,” she indicated.

She explained that the summit would offer participants from across Africa the opportunity to benefit from specialised masterclasses, exchange knowledge, expand professional networks, and gain fresh insights to enhance their work.

The four-day event, themed ‘Defining Africa’s Digital Future: From Consumerism to Partnership,’ is expected to attract cybersecurity experts, researchers, data controllers and processors, innovators, tech companies, and the business community.

A major highlight will be the PICCASO Awards Africa, organised by UK-based PICCASO in collaboration with ADRH, to celebrate excellence on the continent in data privacy, cybersecurity, compliance, and data ethics.

According to organisers, the summit will reinforce the urgency of safeguarding personal data in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and promote an enabling environment for responsible data use as a driver of socio-economic development.

It will also deepen collaboration and celebrate achievements across Africa’s data protection ecosystem.
